Our Story
From humble beginnings in 2010
Oscar&Co really came into its own in 2020 when it moved to much bigger and brighter premises where the current Takapuna salon is located today. The space was big, and we had room to grow. When the pandemic took the world by storm, we learnt to cope in a new norm. We got through it together and came out stronger than ever.
In 2023, the time was right to open our sister salon in the beachside hub of Orewa. The town was so welcoming and the team flourished after building a loyal clientele through 2024.

Our Sustainability
Being sustainable is a big part of the Oscar & Co ethos and thanks to our partnership with Sustainable Salons, an Australian company doing amazing things in NZ, 95% of Oscar & Co’s materials that would otherwise have gone to landfill are now diverted and reused.
Hair Clippings
Hair clippings are collected from the salon floor and stuffed into stockings to make Hair Booms that will help clean up oil spills along our coastlines! Hair is also repurposed in local community gardens for composting or used in sustainable art installations to educate the community.
Plastics
Plastic packaging is sent to specialist local plastics recyclers where it’s cleaned and made into outdoor furniture and new product packaging, keeping it in circulation and out of our oceans.
Tools
All aluminium, foil, colour tubes, cardboard, paper, magazines, razor blades, unwanted tools and select disposables are sold for recycling, and the proceeds are donated to OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest to provide meals for hungry people. A full head of foils provides a quarter of a meal to someone in need!
Ponytails
All collected ponytails 20cm or longer are distributed to charitable organisations to create wigs for those suffering from cancer or alopecia. Sustainable Salons is the largest donor of ponytails in the Southern Hemisphere.
Sustainable Salons
By collecting small amounts from a large salon network, Sustainable Salons is the first company to recycle excess chemicals in the salon industry. These are pooled and sent to chemical recycling plants where they’re neutralised and turned into recycled water used in roadworks and construction.

Our Education
At Oscar&Co we pride ourselves on the quality of our in-depth, in-house Apprentice education program. We run an intensive program which sees an Apprentice move to a high-quality Emerging Colourist within 3 years while continuing to work on their cutting education and specialising in more involved colour services. Our goal is to employ 2 Junior Apprentices each year, to ensure the future of hair dressing continues. Senior Stylists and Colourists are also passionate about continued education through colleagues and external and overseas education opportunities.
